Cat sailing extreme
The Brazilian sailor Beto Pandiani is specialist for catamaran expeditions to the most inhospitable regions of the world. The areas around Cap Horn, the Drake street and the antarctic waters have been his target amongst many others. The sailing professional is an adventurer but no suicidal gambler. For his ambitious project in 2005 - a trip from Miami/Florida via New York to Greenland he has chosen the EAGLE 20 OCEAN, a custom built version of the EAGLE 20 carbon.
Beto ist already planning his next expedition: again sailing an EAGLE he wants to pass the Northwest passage, which means a ca. 5.780 kms trip along the northern edge of the American continent.
The EAGLE OCEAN is strong and fast. Not only sailing extremists like Beto appreciate its qualities. A couple of ambitious sailers do long range trips in coastal waters.
Across the Pacific
This video shows what wonderful expeditions Beto Pandiani does: here the crossing of the Pacific ocean on an open catamaran from South America to Australia. This time he was not sailing an EAGLE but for his next sea journey he already ordered a lighter and faster full carbon EAGLE OCEAN Special.
Eagle Ocean - bluewater sailing with an open 20-foot catamaran
Mainly the EAGLE 20 Ocean is based on the successful EAGLE 20 but...
This catamaran got some specials: Kevlar reinforcements below the waterline and separate waterproof sections of the hulls keep the cat floating even in case of a collision with growlers. Wings plus the regular double trapeze, 3 reefs, a jib furler and additional storing space inside the hulls make the significant differences to the plain racing versions of the EAGLE 20 carbon.
Successful sailing expeditions of experienced sailors on the Baltic Sea, Atlantik coasts, and above all the crossing of the Polar Circle from USA to Greenland proved the concept in a pretty impressive way.
